Plant Care Guidelines

Adaptation:
Zones 4 through 9. To determine your zone, see the map in
Plant Climate Zone Map. Adapted to harsh city conditions.

Light:
Full sun.

Soil:
Tolerates a wide variety of soils. pH 5.5 to 7.5.

Fertilizer:
Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer according to label directions.

Water:
Once established, plane trees require very little supplemental watering. Water newly transplanted and young trees when the soil is barely moist 2 inches below the surface. For more information about watering, see About Watering.

Pruning:
Prune to maintain shape. Plane trees can also be pollarded (branches cut back to the same spot every year), producing a dense, ball-shaped growth habit. When planting, allow enough room for the height and large trunk of these trees.
